What our listeners say...

I love what you and John are doing. No one else out there that I know of is contextualizing poems like you do, outside of a few serious writers -- Edward Hirsch and Camille Paglia come to mind. Your thematic oral presentations have overlapping elements of performance, analysis and fresh interpretation.

Congratulations on this project - it's so clever, intelligent, sophisticated, funny and refreshing.  I really loved the noir flavored episode with the underlying music.  You two have a good thing going!

Listened to your podcast today.  Your voice sounds so good over a microphone!  Clear.  And, to repeat an old phrase, I could listen to John read a phone book.  His voice is so soothing.  I loved the way you both incorporate music, poetry and stories.  Wonderful to hear Noir By Night out loud.  It was meant to be, I feel!

Loved the music with your Noir story. It made the scenes come alive and added richness to the "atmosphere." Also loved the two of you reading it, which also added dramatic depth. This is going to be a terrific series!

Episode 2--Loved the way you read “the perfect crime” in unison, and the back-and-forth reading funny discussion of reason for academics reading death of department chair—the ultimate revenge. John’s “Saturday’s Child” love that folk music, and the theme so fitting to “in between” a chuckle to hear Lynn mention astrological chart – another podcast theme perhaps?

Loved the podcast you two!! What a delicious respite from the normal insanity of my daily life.

Wow! Just gone done listening to the “Glimmering” podcast—y’all did a fantastic job with the podcast and with my poem. I just loved how the two voices went back and forth—and usually within a sentence! I am deeply honored that you chose my poem for inclusion in this initial podcast. Thank you for the advance notice, and huge congrats to both Lynn & John!

You and your long time colleague and friend John Modaff have formed a fabulous UnrulyMuse performance collaboration.  I loved "Glimmering" and "The-In-Between."  The snow was coming down during your second presentation and the two of you sparkled in the afternoon light.

One would be hard-pressed to find a more creative, more entertaining, and more downright delightful pair with whom to spend an evening’s half-hour. In this episode Lynn Miller and John Modaff share a pitch-perfect smorgasbord of excerpts from literature and theater plus original music, poems, and story. Their conversation is informative and interesting, playful yet profound, and their obvious enthusiasm for imaginative exploration of the human condition is infectious.

Thank you for listening!

Your podcasts are so great! I’ve been meaning to write and tell you that I listened to both of them ten days ago in Hillsboro - listened to one of them on the front porch there - SO LOVELY to be read to - like the old radio and readers’ theaters - I love both of your voices, and the music! I was transported by it all. What fun you must have producing it, and SO much fun to be the listener! Can’t wait for the next!

“Carnival”: Listening to the Carnival podcast today:  thought of the scenes in Wim Wenders Wings of Desire one of my all time favorite films.  Love the way you construct the podcast, so easygoing but packed with info and sounds beautiful.

On "Food for Thought
"...your podcast was, again
, thought-provoking and triggered my own memories. And made me laugh. I was a reader of the old-fashioned German grisly fairy tales, and I laughed when you described the older witches as thinking about "the next thing to throw in the oven." Not like Hilda's witch who cleaned up messes! I had a visiting professor from Poland while in grad school ask me if theatre was therapy for me. I had never thought about it. But then I did. Yes. Theatre and therapy ARE the same side of the coin. I really enjoy your short stories. I loved how the heroine found out that being in the wider world brought her out of her self-consciousness. AND I gobble-gobbled on my babies. And even said "Gobble Gobble": With my lips in their little necks, raspberries in the little tummies, and gumming little feet. I couldn't help it! God help me! But they laughed and laughed. You and John keep up the good work!
Christina

i love that you are doing this. the title of your podcast is terrific. i’ve only listened to the first three so far and they are wonderfully consistent in form but eclectic in focus (a great combination from episode to episode). it’s a great way to resurrect the “performance of literature” that you did so successfully at u.t. i don’t listen to many podcasts but i can imagine that this one — with its focus on literature, fiction, poetry, and music is somewhat unique. i hope people can find the needle in the haystack. i visited the website as well and love the illustration by lynda. the tone seems perfect for the podcast. i particularly liked episode 3 only because of my connection to carnival/circus.

Love the bird chirps! Love calling the break “feeding the cat” — in my case, it’s “feeding the dog” Love the balance between your two voices. Love song to remote is so funny — and timely. Love the image of Fred Astaire dancing with a remote. Lynn, how can you leave us hanging in the garden without knowing what happens next? You guys rock!!

Romance/Love/Marriage: another hit out of the park!  Delicious and surprising. Thanks to you and John again.

Home: Bob and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to your podcast on Home as we drove across New Mexico.  It was delightful, and I loved your reading of “The Company That Keeps Me.”  I’m looking forward to the next one!  So much work for you but I’m glad you’re having fun with it.

Thank you so much for including me!
